I’m not sure where I saw this quote from the wonderful Tillie Olsen, but it lodged in my memory:
Any woman who writes is a survivor.
—Tillie Olsen
Or perhaps is trying to be? Is writing always an act of survival?

Yes. For me, writing is integral to my survival. It’s my voice. My chance to be heard. To paraphrase Joan Didion, ‘Being a writer is the act of saying – Listen to me.’
Agreed. Writing is essential for my survival. It’s become like a lifeline. Thanks for sharing that wonderful quote!
Great quote from Joan Didion, Marlish. It’s reminding of something… I’ll go looking for it and maybe it will be tomorrow’s fragment. Thanks! 🙂
You’re welcome, Niva 🙂 Keep writing!
Thanks Amanda. I feel as if this applies to me quite literally. I have survived a great deal over a long time. And now that I am getting relief from some debilitating problems I have started writing poetry. And actually some of them are quite good! At about age 8 or 9
I said I was going to be a poet. I have been aching to write and perhaps my time is now arriving. I must be late starter!
Well, starting late might mean you have more to say, Sandra 🙂
Yes exactly 🙂
